Wood Cabinet Restoration in Portland, OR Near Me

Restoration is the lightest-touch option for solid wood cabinets whose finish is still intact. It focuses on deep cleaning to remove grease, wax, and residue that build up over the years, then correcting surface wear: touching up scratches and worn spots, filling small dings, and refreshing the finish so the wood looks even and clean again. It is especially useful for cabinets that have turned dull, dark, or tacky near the stove and around the sink. Unlike refinishing, restoration does not change the color or strip the finish, which makes it a good match for people who like their kitchen in Portland, OR as it is.
The results depend on the original finish and how much wear it has taken. Cabinets with peeling, cracked, or heavily worn finish generally need full refinishing rather than restoration, and some surfaces such as laminate or thermofoil are not suited to this process at all. The cleaning products used matter, since harsh chemicals can damage older finishes, and gentle upkeep afterward helps preserve the results. Wiping spills promptly, using a mild cleaner, and avoiding excess moisture around the sink and dishwasher will extend the life of the finish. If restoration reveals that a bigger update is needed, staining, painting, and refacing are the next steps to consider.
